Wendy Avner-Thompson

I have had millions (well a lot of odd jobs), over the years. Wife, mother, I practilly lived in the art wing in high school. Winning scholastic awards throughout my years there. Waiting tables in a few restaurants. Learned on the job how to be a short order cook! House cleaner, worked in a frame shop, paste up/layout person then as an illustrator at the Yellow Pages in ParkRidge, ILL. Started drawing portraits at the Saturday Market in Eugene & Portland. Became a courtroom artist for channel 2 news in Portland. I painted some murals at Edgefield in Troutdale. Started working at Fred Meyer in 94 and retired from there after 27 years.

I was married for 30 years to the love of my life. Attended the American Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, ILL. Moved to Oregon in 1980 and have called this home ever since. My work has been in several galleries and did quite a few shows and craft fairs over the years.

I was a member of the L.O.C.A.L. 14 women's art league for 12 years. All through my life no matter where I was or what I was doing, art has always been my constant.

I have dabbled in all kinds of mediums and played with many different things. When I found clay and made a doll that was like a light going off in my head. My style is impressionistic and whimsical. Usung line, color and texture. Starting with subjects from my paintings and created dolls. About 11 years ago I found needle felting. I was hooked. Really so much fun.

No molds or patterns are used in my work, all recycled materials, found objects, weird stuff you wouldn't think would be used in an art piece. The fun is in finding what I need usually in the weirdest places.

My life is full! My son has 4 wonderful children. My daughter, Zach's wife, Maigen has 3 sisters they all have children. So I have 12 grandkids to love.

My life in a nutshell.
