Inspired by themes from nature and the spare designs of tile makers of the early 1900s, Gary Warkentin of Craven Manor Pottery creates handmade tiles in the tradition of the Arts and Crafts Movement. The Estacada, Oregon, studio, near the Clackamas River, also produces furniture-quality frames handcrafted of quarter-sawn white oak and finished using the traditional methods of fuming and hand rubbing to create a rich, low luster. Splined, mitered corners provide a subtle, decorative element. The tiles are secured by Craven Manor's signature backing of hand-formed, patinated copper that carries the maker's mark. Tiles range from 4 x 4 to 8 x 10, unframed. Frames are typically 2 1/2" wide, but custom orders are welcome.
